FINAL NEWS 8 GUBERNATORIAL DEBATE AHEAD OF ELECTION DAY NOW SET FOR NOV. 1
Last debate moved to final week of campaign for Gov. Ned Lamont (D) and Challenger Bob Stefanowski (R)
News 8, the Nexstar Media Inc. television station serving Connecticut, and the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities (CCM), announced today that the final gubernatorial debate ahead of the November general election is now set for the evening of Nov. 1 during CCM’s statewide municipal convention on Nov. 1 and 2 at the Mohegan Sun casino.
The convention and the date of the final debate was moved from October 25 to ensure it took place in the last week of the campaign.
The first News 8 debate will feature the Republican candidates running for the U.S. Senate, and the series will culminate with the final debate between Gubernatorial candidates Ned Lamont (D) and Bob Stefanowski (R) on Nov. 1 at the Mohegan Sun Casino.
The first debate will take place on July 26 at 8 p.m. between Republicans Themis Klarides, Leora Levy and Peter Lumaj, and will be televised live from the News 8 Studio on WCTX and WTNH.com.
The debates are part of News 8’s comprehensive team coverage of the campaigns for Connecticut governor, U.S. Senate, and Congress. As part of this coverage, News 8 will continue a series of exclusive election-year voter surveys done in conjunction with The Hill and Emerson College Polling. The first of these surveys was released in May of this year and results can be seen at WTNH.com.

“CCM’s convention date has been changed to ensure we host the final gubernatorial debate before Election Day,” said Joe DeLong, CCM Executive Director and CEO. “The event will be live on TV with our partner, WTNH-Channel 8. It is important that the last debate is held before municipal officials, so that the public sees candidates respond to issues of concern of towns and cities.”
All candidates who have received an average of at least 10% support in a professionally conducted nonpartisan poll will be invited to participate, regardless of party affiliation.
