CCM Advocacy Helps Shape Balanced Statewide Housing Policy That Recognizes Local Needs

The Connecticut Conference of Municipalities (CCM), the statewide association representing Connecticut towns and cities, today applauded the outcome of the recent legislative compromise on policy regarding housing. An agreement that advances statewide housing goals while avoiding a one-size-fits-all state mandate on towns and cities.

Politics Could Use More Boating Culture

Working in politics, I know the risks of being bold. Sometimes boldness sparks transformational change, and other times it just looks foolish. What I’m about to suggest probably leans toward the latter, but I feel compelled to share it.

“Students and Educators Should Be Heard - Not Handcuffed”

While CCM was not present at the Capitol during the arrests of K–12 students and educators in Governor Lamont’s office, we cannot ignore the deeper issue driving their protest: the chronic and inequitable underfunding of Connecticut’s public education system.

Act Now: Property Taxes Are Soaring, Education Is Underfunded—Voters Are Paying the Price

Connecticut families are stretched thin. Property taxes are rising. Housing costs are surging. And voters are increasingly frustrated with a system that asks them to pay more while delivering less—especially when it comes to public education.

The Governor’s proposed budget does not meet this moment. It underfunds our schools, cuts programs that keep youth engaged and safe, and passes more of the burden to local taxpayers who are already at the breaking point. If this budget becomes law, it will deepen inequality, weaken our towns, and erode public trust in government.

The newest assets in a campaign that urge state leaders to fund our future include two 15-second ads and one 30-second ad. The campaign will comprise digital ads and broadcast television, including Sunday news talk shows with an aim at reaching Connecticut’s most politically-engaged audience.

I'm Raising My Voice - Every Property Taxpayer Should Be Joining Me

In a recent column titled "Plenty of ideas for taxes but few for economizing," Chris Powell argues that the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities (CCM) is “whining” about property tax increases and suggests that we should shift our focus toward “efficiency in government.”

As the CEO of CCM, Connecticut’s largest nonpartisan association of municipal officials representing communities of all sizes, I feel compelled to respond — and I must say: Powell is right!

However, the sad truth is that far too many of our young people are currently off track and struggling. Read more in this op-ed, and be sure to scroll to see who else

CCM to Governor Lamont: Stop the Spin, Municipal Investment Boasts Ignore Reality

In response to Governor Ned Lamont’s recent statements regarding his administration’s investments in Connecticut’s cities and towns, the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities is setting the record straight. The governor’s claims paint an incomplete and misleading picture of the state’s financial commitments to local government.
