Sustainable CT

Sustainable CT

Sustainable CT was created by towns, for towns. Municipal leaders and residents from across the state, CCM, and people from key agencies, non-profits and businesses partnered to develop the program during 2016 and 2017. The Institute for Sustainable Energy at Eastern Connecticut State University led and coordinated program development, with generous support from the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation, Hampshire Foundation, and Common Sense Fund.

What is it?

Sustainable CT is a voluntary certification program to recognize thriving and resilient Connecticut municipalities. An independently funded, grassroots, municipal effort, Sustainable CT provides a wide-ranging menu of best practices. Municipalities choose Sustainable CT actions, implement them, and earn points toward certification.

Sustainable CT also provides opportunities for grant funding to help communities promote economic well-being and enhance equity, all while respecting the finite capacity of the natural environment. The program is designed to support all Connecticut municipalities, regardless of size, geography or resources. Sustainable CT empowers municipalities to create high collective impact for current and future residents.

Sustainable CT is open to all cities and towns in Connecticut. The program is voluntary and participation is free.

Workshops

CCM is pleased to offer the Sustainable CT Training Workshop series to help municipalities complete sustainability actions and submit for Sustainable CT certification. The 3-hour workshops are no cost to CCM members and will feature presentations and interactive sessions with municipal leaders that achieved Sustainable CT certification in 2018, highlighting success stories in Sustainable CT's nine action categories. Each workshop will include a brief overview of Sustainable CT in addition to content-specific information. Some workshops will be hosted in Sustainable CT certified towns and include show and tell best practices. All trainings in the Sustainable CT Workshop Series are eligible for Certified Connecticut Municipal Official (CCMO) credits.
