Selects and applies standard civil engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to a variety of public works planning, construction, design and land surveying projects; provides technical assistance and consultation to town departments, boards, and commissions; inspects construction projects. Assumes responsibility for unit in absence of Town Engineer. Prepares plans, specifications, and designs for public works projects, including highway, street and sidewalk constructions, drainage improvements, recreational fields, and facilities improvements. Prepares costs and materials estimates for construction projects. Reviews public works construction bids for conformity to specifications. Oversees approved projects. Performs technical review, and prepares commentary on permit applications in protected zones.

The skills and knowledge required would generally be acquired with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and two years of civil engineering experience. License or Certificate: Registered Professional Engineer or certification as an Engineer-in-Training under CSG, Ch. 391, with registrations as a Professional Engineer within three years. Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
