Lamont Releases Mashantucket Pequot, Mohegan Funds Early

Waterbury Republican American, March 19 2020

By Paul Hughes

Gov. Ned Lamont is releasing the remaining two-thirds of the budgeted $51.4 million in Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan Fund payments to towns and cities early.

State law provides that the municipal grants be distributed in three equal payments every Jan. 1, April 1 and June 30.

Lamont is directing the state Office of Policy and Management to distribute the April 1 and June 30 payments to towns and cities by next Monday amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Slot revenues back to top

The grants are funded through the state's share of slot machine revenue from the Mohegan Sun and the Foxwoods Resort Casino under agreement with the Mohegan Tribe and Mashantucket Pequot Nation

The state’s 169 municipalities have received $289 million in the last five years.
