PROGRAM OVERVIEW 

This presentation provides an overview of the legal rights of the press when covering first responders, specifically police officers and firefighters, with a focus on issues that frequently arise for Connecticut municipalities. Topics include access to scenes and facilities, recording and photography, public records and FOIA considerations, interviews, and the limits of press access during emergency operations. The session will also address common misconceptions and practical guidance for municipal officials navigating media interactions while maintaining public safety.
