POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director of Public Works directs and manages all field operations, maintenance programs, and infrastructure services, including direct supervisory oversight of the Town Engineer to align municipal engineering goals with day-to-day public works activities.
Manages municipal services including road and sidewalk maintenance, catch basin repair and cleaning, street sweeping, roadside mowing, drainage installation, and tree/debris removal; coordinates 24-hour on-call responses for weather emergencies, severe storms, flooding, and snow and ice control operations; supervises and coordinates directly with the Town Engineer to integrate capital improvement designs with field operations; directs and oversees facilities management, including the maintenance, repair, and operations for all town-owned buildings and physical properties; prepares departmental budgets, manages municipal contracts, oversees equipment and fleet maintenance, and addresses public inquiries.

This is a full-time exempt position; Salary Grade 12; Salary Range $113,144 to $136,897.??
QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering, public administration, construction management or a related field; plus five (5) to eight (8) years of progressively responsible administrative and supervisory experience in municipal public works or civil construction; or in lieu thereof, an equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
Must possess and retain a valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator’s License; must obtain and retain CT DEEP Supervisory Pesticide Applicator’s License; must obtain and retain CT DEEP certification to operate a transfer station/volume reduction facility; must obtain and retain Class A/B Underground Storage Tank Operator Certification; must obtain CT Tree Warden Certification; knowledge of Microsoft Office, required; bilingual (English and Spanish), preferred.
