Brooklyn is a distinctive community with a strong sense of place. Its historic town center, old courthouse now used for Town offices, scenic roads, monuments, public spaces, and long-standing agricultural traditions. The town is also home to parks, trails, recreational programming, the Quinebaug River, the Brooklyn Fair, local farms, civic organizations, and active boards and commissions. Brooklyn residents participate local decisions through the Town Meeting form of government, a three-member Board of Selectmen, and an elected Board of Finance.

The new Town Administrator will serve as Chief Operating Officer under the direction of the First Selectman, who remains the Town’s Chief Executive Officer. This position has been created to provide professional management capacity, improve coordination across departments, support elected officials, and help implement a long-term vision for Brooklyn while preserving the rural, small-town character residents value. The Administrator will oversee day-to-day operations; supervise and coordinate departments; support budget preparation, capital planning, purchasing, grants, risk management, human resources, labor relations, facilities, technology coordination, communications, and special projects; and help ensure that municipal services are delivered efficiently, responsibly, and transparently. This is a meaningful leadership opportunity for someone who enjoys both strategy and hands-on management.

Priorities include strengthening administrative and human resources systems, coordinating budget and capital planning, supporting infrastructure improvements, improving interdepartmental communication, pursuing grants and alternative revenue opportunities, modernizing technology, assisting with economic and commercial development, and balancing growth with Brooklyn’s rural identity.

Ideal candidates will bring increasingly responsible experience in municipal or public-sector administration, budgeting, supervision, project management, personnel administration, grant writing, labor relations, public communications, and policy implementation. Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree is required, with five to eight years of increasingly responsible administrative, management, or supervisory experience in government, including at least three years of management experience; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. An MPA or MBA is preferred, and knowledge of municipal government is highly desirable.

The Town of Brooklyn offers a salary commensurate with qualifications and experience and a generous benefits package including health, dental, life insurance, paid vacation and sick leave, a pension plan. Relocation assistance is negotiable. There is no residency requirement, although living in Brooklyn or within close driving distance is preferred.
