Make Place Matter

West Hartford Town Hall
50 South Main St.
West Hartford, CT 06107

9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Check-in beings at 8:30 a.m.

Do you have a city center? a town green? Whether an actual physical town center exists or not, we will discuss why place matters (now, more than ever) and how to create it so that it reflects the character of your community.

We will help convene the major players in this effort and help you identify who they are in your community to make "place" happen. We will also dig into the physical, fiscal and social aspects of creating great places.

  • Physical concepts include: connections, shared parking, use and re-use of properties, parcel assembly, ingress and egress.
  • Fiscal considerations will cover grand list, bonding options, and accessing grant dollars to achieve this place.
  • Social aspects center around engaging your residents and businesses to determine that the places you make meet their needs and desires.

Whether trails and bikes or commercial hubs (or both!), our workshop will engage your community to think about the places it wants to make that celebrate your local character and enhance both your tax base and your high quality living.

This workshop, presented by Connecticut Economic Resource Center, Inc (CERC), will help towns and cities envision and implement the places in their community that will serve as the heart -- a community gathering place, the spot everyone wants to be.

You will leave here understanding how to think strategically abotu the places that celebrate your community's local character and enhance both your tax base and your high quality of living.
