Drone aircraft, or Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS), are increasing in use and popularity. This presentation will review practical applications of using this technology to support and enhance municipal operations.

Maximizing your ability to use your knowledge of local government to influence public policy.  Between decreased funding, increased mandates, and the state facing an uncertain financial future, now more than ever, it is important for you as a local leader to participate in the legislative and regulatory processes and influence public policy.

This workshop will provide you with the opportunity to learn from key legislative leaders from both parties and the Executive Branch on how to best use your position as local leaders to ensure sound policies are enacted by the State Legislature.  These leaders will help you understand the current state legislative landscape, identify policy trends and priorities, and provide strategies and recommendations for better engagement and communications with state legislators and the Executive Branch.

Speaking from their experiences they will provide you with an insider’s perspective on how legislation is developed, the ebb and flow of the legislative process and how you can be the most effective in shaping and passing legislation while avoiding common mistakes that can derail the most well intentioned bills.

A8 The Fundamentals of Municipal Government

Municipal government is a complex system of various professionals in different fields working together to create a better community for their residents. This session will cover the ins and outs of what it is like to work and serve in municipal government. Success stories and common challenges will be shared.
