The City of Stamford is looking for a seasoned professional to serve as the Chief Building Official to run the municipality’s Building Department. The Department enforces the provisions of the State of Connecticut building codes and compliance with conditions for permits. This is a unique opportunity to supervise and develop staff who enforce local and state laws concerning the construction, alteration and demolition of buildings and structures. The Department also ensures the compliance of all residential and commercial structures with the building code. The Chief Building Official also helps monitor processes for ensuring that building codes are applied consistently throughout the municipality and that the Department satisfies established quality/timeliness standards for plan reviews, inspections and permit/certificate issuance.

The successful candidate will have experience in building construction, including large scale high rise structures, thorough knowledge of state and local building codes, demonstrated management experience and the capacity to maintain positive communications and interactions with those who have matters before the Department, including residents, property owners, builders, developers, contractors, architects, engineers and attorneys. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture or a closely related field and five (5) years of managerial experience in a municipal Building Inspection Department OR a satisfactory equivalent of education, training and experience as described above.

Salary Range: $105,000 - $133,000
