Municipal Records Management: Do You Know What To Do?

Bristol Public Library
9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Registration beings at 8:30 a.m.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW back to top

Municipal records management is a broad scope needed in order to meet not only Freedom of Information Act requests, but also to have ready access to important municipal documents. Records management includes both printed and electronic documents including emails. Do you know what you have to keep, how to keep it, and why?

The Office of the Public Records Administrator, part of the CT State Library, is authorized to provide guidelines and standards for public records including retention, destruction, and transfer. Presentations will address the efficient and systematic control of the creation, receipt, maintenance, use, and disposition of records. Processes for capturing and maintaining evidence of and information about business activities and transactions in the form of records will also be addressed.

You'll learn how to safely store both paper and electronic records and not be vulnerable to various types of disasters and emergencies such as floods and fires. A municipality cannot perform its essential functions without the necessary records.
