Field house rises with donated labor
As North Haven’s $75 million high school construction project neared completion, it looked like one hoped for component would be left on the drawing boards.
Bids for a field house at the school’s athletic complex twice came in too high for the overall budget, until tradesmen and private contractors stepped up to the plate.
Thanks to their donated work that saved about $150,000, the field house is now open and bears a plaque dedicated to the contractors and unions that helped build it in “the true spirit of team work.”
The contractors are Arona Corp., Brayman Hollow Masonry, Ed-Mor Electric, F & F Mechanical, New Haven Partitions, Kaestle-Boos and Diversified Technology Consultants.
Among the trade unions are Bricklayers Allied Craft Workers Local 1, IUOE Local 478, International Masonry, United Union of Roofers and Waterproofers and Allied Workers Local 12, Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 777, Sheet Metal Workers Local 40, Carpenters Local 24, Laborers Local 455, IBEW Local 90 and IUPAT District Council 11.
