The Town of Stratford, pop. 50,256, is seeking an experienced professional to assume this highly responsible administrative position in a Mayor form of government. The CAO reports directly to the Mayor and is responsible for assisting the Mayor in overseeing and coordinating the daily business, operations and administration of the Town, including directing and supervising all Town Department Heads in their implementation of mayoral initiatives, town and departmental operations, and administrative and general policies. The CAO is responsible for ensuring organizational effectiveness, executing strategic priorities, preparing and implementing budgets, drafting ordinances and resolutions, collective bargaining, in conjunction with the Human Resource Director, and administrative policy development. The candidate must have knowledge of principles and practices of public administration, business and management theories, state and municipal government operations, federal and state law, town charter and ordinances, and general governmental procedures. The candidate will have the ability to establish effective working relationships with associates and the public. MBA or MPA degree preferred. Prior municipal and public experience preferred, with progressively responsible leadership experience.
