The Hazard Communication Standard, 29 CFR 1910.1200, provides workers exposed to hazardous chemicals with the right-to-know the identities and hazards of those materials, as well as appropriate protective measures.

  • Explanation of the OSHA HAZCOM STANDARD, 29 CFR 1910.1200
  • Explanation of toxic substances in the workplace and identifying what appears on a product label
  • Discussion of the information presented in the 8 sections of the MSDS
  • Explanation of the purpose of a MSDS
  • Definition of the words and terms found on a MSDS
  • Explanation of where MSDS’s are kept
  • Identify rights and responsibilities of employees

Mrs. Zinsser has been with Connecticut OSHA for three years. She has a Bachelors of Science in Industrial Hygiene from Quinnipiac University. Mrs. Zinsser has been in the safety and environmental consulting field for several years and as a CONN-OSHA Training Specialist, Mrs. Zinsser has responsibility for CONN-OSHA training activities.

DIRECTIONS

From I-291 and the North:

Take I-291 South to I-384 East. Take I-384 East to Exit 1 — Spencer Street. At the end of the exit ramp from Exit 1, turn left onto Spencer Street. Follow Spencer Street for approximately 1 mile. At the 4th traffic light turn left onto Olcott Street. The entrance to the Public Works Facility—Field Services Division will be on your left. Look for the Town sign — 321 Olcott Street. Follow the entrance road approximately 1/4 mile, the Public Works Facility will be on the left.

From the East:

Take I-84 West to I-384 East (Exit 59). Take I-384 East to Exit 1 - Spencer Street. At the end of the exit ramp from Exit 1, turn left onto Spencer Street. Follow Spencer Street for approximately 1 mile. At the 4th traffic light turn left onto Olcott Street. The entrance to the Public Works Facility—Field Services Division will be on your left. Look for the Town sign — 321 Olcott Street Follow the entrance road approximately 1/4 mile, the Public Works Facility will be on the left.

From Waterbury and the West:

Take I-84 East to I-384 East (Exit 59). Take I-384 East to Exit 1 - Spencer Street. At the end of the exit ramp from Exit 1, turn left onto Spencer Street. From New Haven and the South:

Note: Some landmarks on Spencer Street— Pep Boys on your left; Shop-Rite on right, Lynch Toyota will be on right at the intersection of Spencer Street and Olcott Street.
