SUMMARY

This workshop focuses on the risk exposures that organizations face in providing transportation services. Attendees will learn the necessary skills to identify and effectively go about managing the diverse risk exposures that are a part of the transportation service.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Student transportation is one of the greatest risk exposures faced by public schools. Liability, automobile, property, and even Workers’ Compensation exposures are all risks to an organization that provides or contracts transportation services.

Some organizations own and operate their entire fleet, others contract everything to a third party, and other use a mix of the two approaches. In any case, serious risk exposures are present and need to be properly identified, analyzed, and appropriately managed.

This CIRMA workshop provides attendees with the practical understanding of the risk exposures that their organizations assume when they provide transportation services. Attendees will learn the information and techniques they need to effectively manage the risk that their organization may experience.

Topics include:

Appropriate policies and procedures, including a safety policy, permission slips, acknowledgements, and waivers.
Driver safety and training programs.
Recommended insurance requirements for third-party contracted services.
Documentation and records management requirements.
Fleet safety programs.
Unique concerns of Special Education/Needs transportation.
Liability concerns of volunteer drivers and privately-owned vehicles.
Routes and scheduling, including bus stop inspections.
Emergency operating procedures.

SPEAKERS Luc Pentz
Risk Management Consultant

Luc Pentz serves as a Risk Management Consultant for CIRMA’s Risk Management Services. Luc has worked at CIRMA for the past three years developing and implementing special projects, products, and consultative services. Luc holds a B.S. Degree in Criminal Justice from Quinnipiac University, and is currently pursuing his Masters in Business Administration and Associates in Risk Management designation through Quinnipiac University’s School of Business. From the North
Follow I-91 South to Hartford. In Windsor, take Exit 35 onto I-291 West. Continue to I-84 East to Exit 68. Take Route 195 South and continue on thi road for about 10 miles until the intersection of Route 89 and Route 195. Turn left onto Route 89 (Warrenville Road). The library will be on your right. The first parking lot entrance is for the Buchanan Auditorium; the second parking lot entrance is for Mansfield Public Library.

From the Southeast
Take Route 32 and continue north to Willimantic. In Willimantic, follow the signs for Route 195 for about 6 miles into Mansfield until the intersection of Route 89 and Route 195. Turn right onto Route 89, aka Warrenville Road. The library will be on your right. The first parking lot entrance is for the Buchanan Auditorium.

From Other Points South
Follow I-91 North to Hartford and take Exit 29 which connects with I-84 East. Continue on I-84 East to Exit 68. Take Route 195 South and continue on this road for about 10 miles until the intersection of Route 89 and Route 195. Turn left onto Route 89, (Warrenville Road). The library will be on your right. The first parking lot entrance is for the Buchanan Auditorium.

From Hartford and the West
Follow I-84 East/West to Exit 68. Take Route 195 South and continue on this road for about 10 miles until the intersection of Route 89 and Route 195. Turn left onto Route 89, aka Warrenville Road. The library will be on your right. The first parking lot entrance is for the Buchanan Auditorium. NOTE: Workshop will be in Buchanan Auditorium. Please park in lot for Buchanan Auditorium and enter via the auditorium entrance.
