This workshop discusses the critical elements necessary to run an effective Fleet Safety Program, and to enable you to analyze your risks, and develop your own Fleet Safety Program.

Fleet Safety Management was developed to help managers reduce auto losses. This workshop is part of CIRMA’s Management series. These workshops provide managers and supervisors the understanding they need to develop a more effective risk management program.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Millions of dollars a year are awarded to claimants for automobile injuries. These awards can be financially devastating to the public employers who pay them. One way or another, with or without insurance, the negligent party will shoulder the cost of large awards. One way to reduce these kinds of claims is to implement and adhere to a Fleet Safety Program.

This workshop explains how a Fleet Safety Program will help you manage the risks associated with vehicle-related events, reduce exposure to significant liabilities, and save your municipality significant amounts of money.

Identify the financial risks and legal principles that affect organizations with vehicle fleets.
Outline the critical and general components of a Fleet Safety Program and describe the benefits.
Understand the procedures for hiring and training drivers; and the performance guidelines for vehicles and drivers.
Understand the process of accident and injury review and the related responsibilities of managers and drivers.
Give examples of safety reward and response programs that promote good driving habits.
Describe a documentation system.

Joey Barbera

In the insurance Risk Management Field, Joey has provided Risk Management consulting to various public agencies that range from Public Housing Authorities to Section 8 and low income housing across the country focusing on General Liability, Fleet and Property. Joey also has experience in Security and Emergency Medical Response as he spent 5 years as a volunteer within his home town's Fire Department. Joey has a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Sociology with a Concentration in Criminal Justice from Central Connecticut State University and has been certified as a Public Housing Manager, a Licensed Producer, and a Licensed Casualty and Property Adjuster. DIRECTIONS

From the Connecticut Turnpike (I-95):
Get off at Exit 13 and head south on Boston Post Road (US-1) for .4 mile. Turn right onto W Norwalk Road and continue for 4.6 miles (road name will change to White Oak Shade and Main Street). In the village of New Canaan, turn left into the driveway next to New Canaan Town Hall. Proceed up driveway and park in municipal lot behind the Outback Teen Center. The Outback is the yellow building with a steep green roof located just behind the New Canaan Town Hall and the New Canaan Playhouse.

From the Merritt Parkway (CT-15):
Get off at Exit 38 and head north on CT-123 for 1.7 miles. Turn left onto East Ave (CT-106) for .5 mile. At the second light, turn right onto Main Street. Town Hall is just up the street on the left. Turn left into the driveway. Proceed up driveway and park in municipal lot behind the Outback Teen Center. The Outback is the yellow building with a steep green roof located just behind the New Canaan Town Hall and the New Canaan Playhouse. PARKING: Parking is available in the municipal lot behind the Outback Teen Center. Please walk down to the Town Hall.
