LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Incidents of workplace violence have become so common that now
only the most shocking make national news. Yet most supervisors
still deny the possibility that such an incident could happen in their
workplace. Or, worse yet, that it could be caused by one of their own
employees. We want to believe, “It can’t happen here.” But behind
the sensational headlines, a very real day-to-day trend of workplace
threats, aggression, and assaults has grown to epidemic proportions.
The U.S. Department of Labor reports that homicides are the
third-leading cause of fatal occupational injury in the U.S. While
most incidents of workplace violence do not involve fatalities,
even relatively minor episodes can devastate employees’ sense of
personal security.
This workshop is designed to make managers more aware of the
issues related to workplace violence and to provide some tools to
help manage, defuse, and prevent it.
Participants will learn:
- Common causes of violent and aggressive behavior, both internal and external.
- The destructive results of even mild forms of aggression.
- Warning signs of those who might pose a risk to a safe, secure workplace.
- The basic steps in setting up a workplace violence prevention program to reduce incidents and liability.

This workshop is designed for:

- Department Managers and Supervisors
