SUMMARY

Join with other municipal leaders to discuss concerns regarding workers’ compensation fraud and abuse. This session will provide municipal and school managers the understanding they need to reduce the incidence of workers’ compensation fraud within their organizations.

Attendees are asked to bring actual cases to be utilized during the group discussion with our panel of experts. Attendees are encouraged to participate in the group discussion.

Management Series

Workers' Compensation Fraud Prevention was developed to help supervisors lower their Workers' Compensation costs.

This symposium is part of CIRMA Management Series. These sessions provide managers and supervisors the understanding they need to develop a more effective risk management program.

Today, 10 cents out of every premium dollar is lost to fraud. Learn how you can help protect your organization, and lower your costs!

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

The National Insurance Crime Bureau estimates that workers’ compensation fraud is the fastest growing insurance scam in the nation. Today, 10 cents out of each premium dollar is wasted on fraud.

No organization is immune to workers’ compensation fraud. Twenty percent of respondents in an Insurance Research Center survey said they were aware of a workers’ compensation fraud scheme at their workplace.

The most notorious workers’ compensation fraud is the phony workplace injury. Fraud can also take the form of malingering: an employee prolonging a legitimate claim to avoid returning to work.

The objective of this session is to empower managers with the information they need to actively lower incidents of workers’ compensation fraud in their organizations.

This symposium will help you to:

  • Recognize the subtle signs of abuse and fraud
  • Understand the legal distinction between fraud and abuse
  • Understand and leverage the CIRMA Special Investigative Unit (SIU) efforts to control fraud and abuse
  • Understand and communicate supervisory responsibilities in fraud prevention and control
  • Build an organizational culture that does not tolerate workers’ compensation fraud
