LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Incidents of workplace violence have become so common that
now only the most shocking make national news. Yet most supervisors
still deny the possibility that such an incident could happen
in their workplace. Or, worse yet, that it could be caused by one of
their own employees. They want to believe, “It can’t happen
here”. But behind the sensational headlines, a very real day-today
trend of workplace threats, aggression, and assaults has
grown to epidemic proportions.
The U.S. Department of Labor reports that homicides are the
third-leading cause of fatal occupational injury in the U.S. While
most incidents of workplace violence do not involve fatalities, even
relatively minor episodes can devastate employees’ sense of personal
security.
This workshop is designed to make managers more aware of
the issues related to workplace violence and to provide some tools
to help manage, defuse, and prevent it.
Participants will learn:
- Common causes of violent and aggressive behavior,
both internal and external.
- The destructive results of even mild forms of aggression.
- Warning signs of those who might pose a risk to a safe,
secure workplace.
- The basic steps in setting up a workplace violence prevention
program to reduce incidents and liability.
AUDIENCE
This workshop is designed for:
- Human Resource Directors
- Risk Managers
- Department Managers and Supervisors
