"The challenge of government employee safety
is a difficult one,’ notes the Public Risk Management
Association. This CIRMA workshop is designed to
help local government provide the safest possible
work environment for their employees."
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
OSHA regulations are sometimes complex and not always easy
to understand. But one thing is clear: employers are required
to provide their employees with a workplace that is free from
recognized hazards that may cause death or serious physical
harm. This CIRMA workshop will bring you up-to-date on the
latest changes to OSHA regulations and help build your
understanding of OSHA requirements.
Topics include:
Machine Guarding. This section explains the general
requirements for machine guarding and precautions for
woodworking, abrasive wheel machinery, mechanical presses,
and any machinery with moving parts.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). This section
introduces you to the general PPE requirements, including
eye, face, head and hand protection, plus footwear and
electrical protection.
Industrial Hygiene. This section prepares you to assess
the environmental hazards that may injure your employees.
It will help you identify on-the-job inhalation, ingestion,
absorption, injection, and physical hazards.
Hazard Communications. This section will increase your
understanding of safe work practices for hazardous chemicals,
including labeling and signage, Material Safety Data sheets,
storage and disposal, training and enforcement.
Ergonomics. This section provides an understanding of basic
ergonomic principles and how to apply them in office and
computer workstations, laboratories, and kitchens.
