“This workshop will help managers protect individuals from harm, protect public property from damage or loss, and deliver vital services to their communities.”

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Most property losses are preventable. And when a loss does occur, most can be contained and mitigated before the damages escalate. CIRMA members manage a wide array of facilities, representing over $10 billion worth of public property under their care. This CIRMA workshop provides property managers the tools they need to identify and analyze hazards at their facilities so that they can successfully prevent many types of costly losses.

Floods, fires, and accidents rarely allow time for those involved to stop and think. So post-loss preparation is as important as pre-loss prevention. This workshop guides attendees through the proper steps to take during and after a loss, helping you to prevent small losses from becoming big losses, and bigger losses from becoming disasters. The instructors, both experts in loss prevention, mitigation, and restoration, will walk attendees through the steps of property risk assessment, preparations and common clean-up tasks.

Topics covered:

  • Cold weather precautions.
  • Water clean-up—When should you call in a specialist.
  • Mechanical and life-safety systems maintenance.
  • Monitoring contractors’ work.
  • Cutting, welding and other hot work—careless use can increase the likelihood of fires.
  • Impairment programs—To maintain the integrity of your life-protection systems, an impairment handling program should be implemented to control situations when the life protection system is shut down.
  • Property inspections—How to perform thorough and effective property inspections.
AUDIENCE
  • Municipal Facilities Directors and Managers
  • Fire Marshals
