Believe It Or Not: Mega-Mandate Up For Another Vote!

Smack-dab in the middle of the worst economic crisis in a generation — a proposal that would cost towns and cities millions in special workers' compensation benefits for select employees — HB 6194 — is up for another vote. It's hard to believe that lawmakers would really even consider a new, costly unfunded state mandate as layoffs plague local governments — let alone favorably vote one out of committee!

Well, they would...and have already. As you know, the Labor Committee already favorably reported HB 6194 — despite one committee member describing it as "a slap in the face." The Public Safety Committee could vote on this mega-mandate as soon as this Tuesday, March 31st.

Don't be dumbfounded — be active. This mega-mandate, special benefits give-away should be stopped NOW!

STOP THE VOTE: Contact Public Safety Committee Members NOW!

(see attached committee information)

Tell them:

  • To take no action on HB 6194.
  • A compromise on this issue was passed last year and it is against protocol to ignore that and go forward with HB 6194. The committee should not perpetuate consideration of this toxic mandate.
  • Local budgets cannot afford any more pandering to special interest groups in such dire fiscal times.
  • We're in a financial emergency — we need budget solutions – not new unfunded state mandates.
  • HB 6194 should be buried for good.
