TOWN AND CITY LEADERS FROM ACROSS THE STATE TO ADDRESS SPECIAL APPROPRIATIONS / PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT FORUM ON THE IMPACT OF THE GOVERNOR'S PROPOSED STATE BUDGET ON MUNICIPALITIES TOMORROW - FRIDAY, MARCH 13 - 12:30 P.M.

Municipal leaders from the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities (CCM) will discuss the impact of the Governor's proposed state budget on towns and cities before a joint forum of the General Assembly's Appropriations Committee (with the Planning and Development and Finance Committees, also invited) on Friday, March 13 from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the State Legislative Office Building, Room 2C.

Municipal leaders who will testify include:

Tim GriswoldFirst Selectman of Old Lyme and First Vice-President of CCM
John DeStefanoMayor of New Haven
Scott ShanleyGeneral Manager of Manchester
Matthew Galligan   Town Manager of South Windsor
John ElsesserTown Manager of Coventry
Susan BransfieldFirst Selectman of Portland
Ralph EnoFirst Selectman of Lyme
Andrew NunChief Administrative Officer, Bridgeport

Municipal leaders are expected to urge state legislators to resist the temptation to cut aid to towns and cities. Such cuts would be a false economy, merely transferring the state financial crisis to the local level. It would result in a tax shift to already overburdened property taxpayers. Municipal leaders will look to the General Assembly to at least support maintaining present levels of municipal aid -- avoiding devastating aid cutbacks, give towns more local revenue options, enact substantive relief from state mandates, and support greater regional cooperation among town governments.
