A Significant Victory for Towns and Cities
Conveyance tax extension -- See how your legislators voted
In a major victory for towns and cities, the General Assembly passed a two-year extension of the real estate
conveyance tax in Special Session Wednesday and Thursday.
The Senate voted 19-14 (3 absent) to support the bill. The House voted 82- 51 (19 absent).
As the vote tallies show, this was not an easy win - it was only accomplished through the unified and persistent
message sent by municipal officials. CCM staff worked hard to make sure that every legislator was
contacted by us and by the officials in their districts.
Those who voted "yes" did so despite concerted pressure from the realtors in their districts. Please take
the time to thank them - publicly - for standing up for their hometowns and against the realtors'
pressure. Send them a letter, mention them in a newspaper column, etc. At the very least, call them and
thank them.
