The state legislature's special session has been scheduled for Wednesday, June 11, with the specific goal on voting on whether to extend the municipal portion of the real estate conveyance tax for another two years.
The tax has been a long-running issue at the Capitol, prompting an ongoing battle between the state's Realtors and the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities.
House Speaker James Amann and Senate President Pro Tem Donald Williams made the announcement today on the upcoming session. While some have talked about extending the conveyance tax for one year, Williams said it would be two years in "just the regular renewal we've done in the past.''
The tax was adopted during a budget crisis under then-Gov. John G. Rowland in 2003, and it has been extended by the legislature three times since then.
