Poll Your State Legislative Delegation NOW! Interests of Towns and Cities on Capitol Agenda
Let CCM Know Their Responses
The "short" legislative session is barreling along and decisions will soon be made about the many issues that affect
towns and cities.
As legislators’ hometown leaders you have an essential role to play in advocating for municipalities at the state
capitol.
CCM asks that you help our lobbying effort by contacting your legislative delegations and getting their responses
on key issues facing your town. Your actions will underscore the activities of CCM’s lobbying staff in Hartford,
who will be following-up with our own one-on-one discussions with legislators.
YOUR ACTION NEEDED
Contact each member of your legislative delegation. Ask them their positions on the following important issues facing
towns and cities:
- Make permanent the present rates of the Municipal Real Estate Conveyance Tax
- Mandate a Property Tax Cap without more comprehensive property tax reform
- Increased Funding for education, such as ECS and Special Education
- Increased Funding for general municipal government, such as TAR, PILOTs, Pequot-Mohegan grants
- Mandates reform:
- the statutory prohibition against state mandates unless there’s a 2/3 vote of the legislature;
- increasing the threshold for prevailing wage to $1 million for all projects, indexed for inflation;
- relieving municipalities of the responsibility for collecting and storing the possessions of evicted tenants.
Ask them to make a commitment to you to back the municipal position on each of these issues, in their caucuses
and on the floor.
Contact Gian-Carl Casa or Ron Thomas of CCM’s advocacy department to let us know their responses: (203) 498-3000 or by email gcasa@ccm-ct.org or rthomas@ccm-ct.org.
